   01. What Are Mail Rules?
 
 
   

Mail Rules tell FirstClass how to handle the following mail:

  • messages that you receive
  • messages that you send
  • messages that are received by conferences

Mail rules are helpful for things like:

  • Deleting all mail that comes from a particular e-mail address
  • filing all mail with a certain subject into a particular folder
 
   02. Creating Receive Mail Rules
 

 

 1. Go to your FirstClass Preferences.
 

 
 2.   Click on the Messaging tab of the Preferences.

Then click on the Mail Rules tab.

Click on the Mailbox Rules button.


 
 3.   You will now be viewing your Mailbox Rules window.
 4. Click the New Receive Rule button to open a new Receive Rule panel.
 
 5. If you wish, give your new rule a name.
 
 6. In the If: area, choose your settings. The first setting will allow you to select from a dropdown.

Selecting different choices from this dropdown will affect the choices available in the next dropdown menu.


 
 7. Then, you will select from a second dropdown.

Selecting different choices from this dropdown will affect the choices available in the next dropdown menu.


 
 8. Enter data into the final If: fields if necessary, or select from the dropdown (depending on the choice available).
 
 9. Click on the Then: dropdown menu to choose how you want FirstClass to handle the mail with the parameters you set in the If: field.
 
 10. If necessary, provide additional information in the Then: field.
 
 11. Save the rule.
 
 12. The rule will now appear in your Mailbox Rules window.
 
 03. Creating Send Mail Rules
 
 3. Click the New Send Rule button to open a new Receive Rule panel.
 
 4. If you wish, give your new rule a name.
 
 5. In the If: area, choose your settings. The first setting will allow you to select from a dropdown.

 6. Then, you will select from a second dropdown.

 10. Save the rule.
 
 11. The rule will now appear in your Mailbox Rules window.
 
 04. Creating Advanced Mail Rules
 
 1. Click the New Advanced Rule button to open a new Receive Rule panel.
 
 2. The Advanced Rule dialog box will allow you to select from a number of choices to create a rule syllogism to handle various mail options.

 


 
 3. Make your choices and click Save to apply the rule.
 
 05. Sorting Rules
 
 1. Open your Mailbox Rules window.
 
 2. Use the sort bar by clicking the categories to sort your rules by:
  • Rule name
  • Event (receive, send, etc.)
  • Action
  • Last Modified

 
 06. Deleting Rules
 
 1. Open your Mailbox Rules window.
 
 2. Click once on the rule you wish to delete.

Press the Delete key on your keyboard, or click the Delete icon in the toolbar.

 
 07. Rules Logs
 
 1. Your Rules Log will always appear in your Mailbox Rules window.
 
 2. The Rules Log is a record of every time you create or update a mail rule. The Log is helpful for identifying errors, such as assigning mail to be filed in a non-existant folder.
