01. Your E-mail Address
 |

Your FirstClass e-mail address is:
firstname_lastname@glenbard.org.
So, if your name is John Smith, your e-mail address would be
John_Smith@glenbard.org. |

02. Logging In
 |
|
|
- Launch the FirstClass software.
- Enter your user name in the top box of the login screen.
If you are a STAFF MEMBER, your user name is the first three
letters of your first name, and the first three letters of your last
name (no spaces)
Example: John Smith's user name would be johsmi.
If you are a STUDENT, your user name will be your six digit
STUDENT ID NUMBER.
Example: Joe Student's user name would be 600048.
- Enter your password.
(Note: The first time you log in, the password will be set to the default. You
NEED to change it. Choose a password that is
at least five characters and contains at least one number. See below for
steps on changing your password.)
- Click the Login button.

03. The FirstClass Desktop
 |
|
|
This is the FirstClass Desktop that will appear upon logging in to
your account.
There are a number of icons on the desktop that serve different functions. |
|
|
|
1. |
Mailbox |
|
|
Contains all messages sent to and by you. |
|
2. |
Staff Conference |
|
|
Your building's conference area. This area will contain messages for the
entire staff of your building. There may also be calendars for your
building in this area (for example, computer lab schedules). |
|
3. |
Calendar |
|
|
Your personal calendar, where you can add events with reminders. |
|
4. |
District Wide Conference |
|
|
This area includes messages to the entire district, a District Wide
calendar and chat room, Bus Zone information, and the administrator
meeting calendar. Information regarding payroll, insurance, and other
important employee messages are often posted here. |
|
5. |
Address Book (Contact Manager) |
|
|
Contains user created mail lists and saved e-mail addresses and contact
information. |
|
6. |
Help |
|
|
The built-in Help file for FirstClass. This folder contains guides
created by FirstClass, as well as a Defnitions folder with explanations
of all terms used in FirstClass. |
|
7. |
Student Conference |
|
|
View messages, calendars, and departmental messages visible to students
and staff. Only staff may send messages to the student conference area.
Students may read only.
|
|
8. |
All Conferences |
|
|
This area displays all the conferences available to the user, including
Conferences in other buildings. |
|
9. |
File Storage |
|
|
This is a folder where files of many kinds may be stored. This area can
be used as temporary backup of files, or to transport files between home
and school. Your file storage space is limited; See the Storage Bar
section for more information. |
|
10. |
Bookmarks |
|
|
URLs (web adresses) may be stored in this folder to create a "favorites"
or "bookmark" list of websites you use frequently. This can be accessed
from anywhere you can log into FirstClass. |
|
11. |
GEA Conference |
|
|
This is a locked conference for certified staff only, containing
important GEA information. |
|

|
|
04. The Toolbar
 |
|
|
There are a series of buttons in the toolbar. By holding your mouse
pointer over each button (but not clicking), you
can see what each button does. Below is a description of the function of
each button:

Find |
Allows the user to search within the FirstClass
mailbox and folders. Clicking the Find icon will bring up a
dialog box where you can type in a search term and use check boxes to

Deletes items that you select on your Desktop. Use this if you
accidentally put something on your Desktop that you don't want (files,
etc.). |

Permissions |
The Permissions button allows you to control your containers (Mailbox,
Calendars, File Storage) to allow other users certain access to them.
This is an advanced feature. |

Résumé |
You can add personal contact information in the résumé
field. This will be visible to all FirstClass users. You can view
other users' résumés by Ctrl-clicking (Mac) or right-clicking (PC)
names in the directory. |

05. Storage Bar (Account Space Limit)
 |
|
Staff accounts are allotted 100Mb of storage space;
Student accounts are allotted 25Mb. This storage space includes Mail
messages and file storage. Your account space is displayed in the status
bar below the buttons in your FirstClass toolbar.

If you exceed your storage limitation, you will be
able to receive messages, but will be unable to send new messages.
You will need to delete unnecessary files and/or messages in order to
create space in your account.
Storage space will be updated nightly, according to deletions you've made.
Please clean out your mailbox/file storage regularly
to avoid exceeding your account storage limit. |
