FirstClass Basic Information
1. Your E-Mail Address
If you are a Staff Member:
Your FirstClass e-mail address is: firstname_lastname@glenbard.org.
So, if your name is John Smith, your e-mail address would be John_Smith@glenbard.org.
Remember, your name in FirstClass will be the name that appears on your paperwork submitted to Human Resources.
If you are a Student:
Your FirstClass e-mail address is: firstname_lastname_IDnumber@glenbard.org.
So, if your name is John Smith and your ID number is 401256, your e-mail address would be John_Smith_401256@glenbard.org.
2. Logging In (Client Software)
1. Launch the FirstClass Client Software.
2. Enter your User Name in the top box of the login screen.

   If you are a Staff Member:
   Your user name will be the first three letters of your first name and the first three letters of your last name.

   If you are a Student:
   Your user name will be your student ID number.

3. Enter your FirstClass password. (The first time you log in, it will be set to a default password. PLEASE change your password immediately.)
4. Click the green arrow button (or press Return/Enter) to log in.
3. The FirstClass Desktop (STAFF)
This is the FirstClass Desktop that will appear upon logging in to your account.
There are a number of icons on the desktop that serve different functions.

1. Mailbox
Your mailbox contains all e-mail messages sent to and from you, as well as all voice messages received at your phone extension.

2. Building Staff Conference  
This area contains messages for the entire staff of your building. There may also be important files, forms, and calendars for your building in this area. For example, this area contains the student behavior report that is submitted to the deans. It is important to check this area any time a red flag appears.

3. District Wide Conference
The District Wide Conference contains information for the entire district, including technology FAQs, the Student Password Reset tool, district forms, employee benefit information, and more.

4. District Wide Departments
Broken down by department, this staff-only area contains resources specific to your department(s), including curriculum documents and resources.

5. Web Site Area (Only visible if you have an active web site. See your building's webmaster with questions.)
This area contains your school web page. All school web pages are now hosted in FirstClass. You will not have this icon until you work with your building's webmaster to create a web page.

6. Calendar
This is your calendar, to which you can add events with reminders, or add events to students' calendars.

7. Bookmarks
This area stores URLs (web addresses) for a "traveling" bookmark/favorites list that is accessible wherever you log in to FirstClass.

8. File Storage
Store and transport many types of files in this area. Staff members have 250 MB of default storage space, upgradeable to 500 MB (See the Technology FAQs in the District Wide Conference).

9. Building Student Conference
This conference contains messages for all students as well as a link for surveys and file storage space upgrades for students.

10. RWD Bulider Icon (Only visible if you have an active web site. See your building's webmaster with questions.)

11. Contacts
The Contacts area contains your e-mail contacts and personal mail lists, as well as a link to the staff/student Directory.

12. Help
General FirstClass help files are stored here.

13. Trash Can
Check in the Trash Can if you accidentally deleted something. You can undelete, but only for a limited amount of time before the message or file disappears entirely (typically 24 hours).

14. Building Departments
This area organized departmentally and contains information for students. Teacher conferences are also housed (by department) in this area. If you would like your own Teacher Conference, please submit a Web Help Desk ticket.

15. All Conferences
Contains links to all conferences in the district. You may not be able to view every conference.

16. Voice Greetings
This area allows you to create customized voice greetings for the voicemail system. This is for advanced users only!

4. The FirstClass Desktop (STUDENTS)
This is the FirstClass Desktop that will appear upon logging in to your account.
There are a number of icons on the desktop that serve different functions.

1. Mailbox
Your mailbox contains all e-mail messages sent to and from you.

2. Building Student Conference  
This area contains messages for all students. Here you can also find the Surveys & Upgrades icon to increase your account storage space to 50MB.

3. Building Departments
Organized by subject area, these are files and messages specifically for students. If your teacher has a conference, it can be found here (look in the proper department).

4. Calendar
This is your calendar, to which you can add events with reminders.

5. Bookmarks
This area stores URLs (web addresses) for a "traveling" bookmark/favorites list that is accessible wherever you log in to FirstClass.

6. File Storage
Store and transport many types of files in this area. Students have 25 MB of space by default (upgradeable to 50 MB). Files can be accessed anywhere you can log in to FirstClass.

7. Contacts
The Contacts area contains your e-mail contacts and personal mail lists, as well as a link to the staff/student Directory. You can create your own e-mail contacts and mail lists here.

8. Help
General FirstClass help files are stored here.

9. Trash Can

5. The Desktop Toolbar
1. Go Back

2. Go Forward

3. New
Clicking the New button will create a new message. Click the small black arrow next to the New button for more options, including making new folders.

4. Find
Use this icon to find files and mail messages.

5. Directory
Use this to search for students or staff members.

6. Who's Online
Displays a list of all users currently online. Staff members will se[Marker]e students from your building only and all district-wide staff. Students will see only people from your building.

7. Preferences
Allows you to access your account preferences, including font preferences, calendar preferences, your e-mail signature and more.

8. Bookmarks
Quick drop-down access to your bookmarks/favorites.

9. Quit
Logs you out of FirstClass and quits the application. Always do this when you walk away from a computer!

10. Help
Access to general FirstClass help files.

6. Changing Your Password
When you first log in to FirstClass, you will be prompted to change your password. If you accidentally close the dialog box, you can change your password by:

1. Choose Collaborate > Change Password from the FirstClass menu.
2. Enter your old password (default password, if you're changing it for the first time).
3. Enter a new password. Your new password MUST contain at least one number, and must be at least 5 characters long!
4. Type your new password again to confirm.
