FirstClass Attachments
1. Downloading an Attachment from a Mail Message
You can attach many types of files to your mail messages, including pictures, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, PDFs, and more. You can also receive attachments.

To download an attached file from a mail message:

1. When you receive an attachment on a mail message, a small blue paperclip icon will appear next to the message in your mailbox. It will also display the size of the attachment.

2. Open the mail message and locate the attachment.
The attachment will always appear below the TO: field. If you don't see it, drag the bar above the message body DOWN.

3. DO NOT DOUBLE-CLICK the attachment if you want to save it. Double-clicking will OPEN the attachment, but on Glenbard computers, it will be saved into a temporary folder that is not easily accessed. If it is an Office document, it will be opened as a Read-Only file.

4. To SAVE the attachment, either drag it to the desktop or appropriate folder on your computer

OR

Right-click (PC) or Control-click (Mac) and choose Save Attachment...  and browse to the folder where you want to save the file.

4. A status window will appear indicating the percentage of the file downloaded. When it's done, the status will read Completed and the window will disappear.

2. Attaching a File to a Mail Message
There are two ways to attach a file to a mail message:

1. Click the Attach button in the new message toolbar

OR

Drag the file from its location to the gray area near the To: field.

2. You will see a status window appear. When the file has completed uploading, the status will indicate Completed. Click Close.

3. Downloading Multiple Attachments
Sometimes, you will receive multiple attachments in an e-mail. You can download them all at once to the same location.

To download multiple attachments:

1. Open the mail message.

2. Highlight all the attachments by clicking ONCE on the first attachment, holding the Shift key, and clicking the LAST attachment. Do not DOUBLE-CLICK.

3. Right-click (PC) or Control-click (Mac) on any of the attachments and choose Save Attachment...

4. Choose a saving destination and click Choose.

5. A status window will display the download percentages for each of your files. Click the small dropdown arrow next to Details to double-check that all files were downloaded.

4. Attaching Multiple Files to a Mail Message
1. Create a new mail message, address it, and compose your message.

2. Click the Attach file button in the toolbar and browse your computer for the file you would like to attach. Select the file and click Open

OR

Drag the file to just below the To: field in the new message window.

3. A status window will open to indicate the progress of the upload. When the upload is complete, choose Close.

4. Repeat the process to attach as many files as you wish.
       
If you have multiple files in one location (one folder, the desktop) to attach, you can upload them all at once:        
        
1. Click the Attach file button in the toolbar.         
2. Browse your computer for the files you would like to attach..
        
3. Holding down the SHIFT key, click on each of the files you wish to attach to select them.
       
4. Click Open.
       
5. The status window will indicate the progress of the upload.

6. You should see all of your attachments in the message window with icons that represent their file types. If an attachment has not uploaded completely, the icon will display with a warning triangle. If you try to send this message, you will get an alert that the attachment did not upload. Delete it and retry the attachment.

5. Deleting Attachments from Unsent Messages
You may wish to delete an attachment from a message that you have not sent. (You can't delete messages from sent mail or received mail).

To delete an attachment:

1. Open the message.

2. Click ONCE on the attachment to select it. It will appear highlighted in blue.

3. Click the Delete button in the toolbar or backspace/delete on your keyboard.

4. You will be prompted asking if you want to delete the attachment. Click Delete. The attachment will disappear from the message.
6. Setting a Default Download Location (HOME computers only)
On your HOME computer or personal laptop, you can change the default download location for attachments and files. (You will not be able to make this change on school computers).

1. Open the FirstClass Preferences by clicking the Preferences button in the toolbar.

2. Under the General tab, locate the dialog box for Default Download Folder.

3. Click Browse and choose a folder or location on your computer.

4. Click OK.
